My Background

Personal Profile

Here's my story: I grew up on a farm in Illinois, USA, began a life-long love of singing when I was 4 or 5. Went to college, heard J.S. Bach for the first time and was hooked. I spent some time in Europe, then moved back to the US, this time to Boston where I started my formal training as a singing actor. After that came Paris where my career as a soloist began. Brussels came next and then a period filled with professional vocal ensembles. Then came Oslo, where I became a father and got my first training as a massage practitioner with Stemmespesialisten.  And now back to Paris and the present day where it all comes together.

 Training timeline

Blackburn College

Undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts with a major in Music. Lots of performing: choir, madrigal singers, brass ensemble. A great place to start to find myself as a performer. Here is where I first understood that a performance career was what I wanted-

1986-1996

Boston University

School for the Arts

Boston was my home for 10 years and the BU Opera Institute was and excellent diverse training ground. A good-sized city that has many cultural offerings.  The Tanglewood Music Center was also a big part of my life here, first teaching at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and then as a Fellow in the Phyllis Curtin Masterclass.

1996-2004

This was my entry into profssional life as a singer. Living in Paris, working in lots of regional opera in France and Switzerland. Then Brussels where I shifted gears to doing mostly renaissance polyphony with Huelgas Ensemble, Vox Resonat, and Sequentia among others.

2024-present

Back in Paris as a faithful servant of your vocal health.  Massage studies at Le Studio Formation Massage (ORGANISME DE FORMATION AGRÉE) avec Michael Tabakrétine.

1982-1986

2004-2024

My Norwegian adventure! Family, teaching, lots of oratorio and ensemble singing. And banjo. Yes, I'm a banjo player and have done quite a bit of folk-music teaching, which is one of the reasons I deal first with the health of your instrument and your freedom of expression.  Here is where my career as a massage practitioner begins as a team member at Stemmespesialisten (the voice specialist). This is also where my teaching and singing got a MAJOR upgrade with my certification as a Timani Teacher.
